What is Generator Load Bank Testing?

Generator load bank testing is the rigorous process of applying calibrated incremental electrical loads (25%, 50%, 75%, 100%, and 110% overload) to prime and standby generators. It evaluates engine combustion efficiency, alternator excitation, thermal stability, and cooling performance without risking power interruptions to facility production.

Diesel generators operating below 30% load accumulate unburnt fuel in exhaust manifolds. Full load testing heats the engine to optimal combustion temperatures, burning off carbon deposits and restoring full horsepower.
